María Luisa Rojas Amaya
Born in Azuaga (Badajoz), María Luisa completes his piano studies at Conservatorio Superior de Música de Badajoz, with professor Alexander Kandelaki, where she receives Honorific Mention in harmony and accompanied melody and Honor Award in chamber music. She later widened her musical formation receiving lessons from renowned pianists such as Jesús Ángel Rodríguez, Salomon Mikovsky, Mariana Gurkova, Andreu Riera, Marta Zabaleta, Esteban Sánchez, Tamas Vesmas, Emilio Molina, among others.
In 1998 she obtains the Luis Bertrand Award for the best performance of Spanish music during the 11th International Music Course "Matisse" in San Lorenzo del Escorial. She has taken part in Kalenda Maya Ensemble vocal group and Lux Contemporánea, specialized in 20th century repertoire. She has participated in concerts and recitals at UEX, Évora University (Portugal), Casa de la Cultura (Badajoz), Aula "Esteban Sánchez", Antonio Lecuona hall (Sta. Cruz de Tenerife), etc. Since 2004 she has taught at Conservatorio Profesional de Música Esteban Sánchez. Besides, she is the leader of LaOctava, a creative music academy where she has also formed the jazz ensemble "The Dixie 5". With an interest in singing, she has been a member of the Kalenda Maya Ensemble and Lux Contemporánea, a group specializing in 20th-century repertoire. She has performed in numerous concerts and recitals at the University of Extremadura (UEX), the University of Evora, Teatro López de Ayala (Badajoz), Aula Esteban Sánchez (Badajoz), and Auditorio "Antonio Lecuona" (Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
As a regular accompanist, she has worked with singers such as José Miguel Torres, with whom she presented the show "De la Zarzuela a la Copla", and Carmen Solís, with whom she frequently collaborates in singing courses and recitals, including the singing course at LaOctava, Centro de Música Creativa, the Entrevoces series, and Infantes Música. She has also contributed to the composition of music for the theatrical production "El Cerco de Numancia", part of the 61st edition of the Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival, which won the 2015 Ceres Audience Award, as well as for "Viriato" in the festival´s 63rd edition.
Since 2014, she has coordinated the Singing Course with Carmen Solís and David GarcÃía, organized by LaOctava, Centro de Música Creativa, and since 2023, the International Music Course, as part of the parallel activities of the Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival, where she also participates as an accompanist. Alongside Carmen Solís and David García, she has performed in several concerts, including one at the Roman Forum Portico in 2019 and another at Sala Trajano in Mérida in 2021.
Her teaching career has been closely linked to the Official Conservatory of Music of Mérida since 2004, where she also works as an accompanist pianist.
